Frequently Asked Questions
Australian Jojoba
What is the difference between Australian and Certified Organic Jojoba?
Due to increasing demand for Certified Organic Jojoba, we partnered with an international fair-trade farm that ethically grows and supplies us with organic Jojoba. We decided to use recyclable bottles in larger sizes as an alternative to glass, making them perfect to use in your bathroom after a shower or bath.
Although our signature Australian Wadi-Wadi Jojoba isn’t 'certified organic', we adhere to the same strict standards of an organic farm, which means we never use any synthetic pesticides or harmful chemicals on our plants, and our Wadi-Wadi Jojoba is clinically proven to have higher amounts of Omega 9 than other varieties.
Omega 9, working together with omegas 3 & 6, act as building blocks in the skin cells, strengthening the skin’s surface layers for a smoother, healthier, and younger-looking complexion. This makes it more effective to use on your face, and that is why you will find Australian Wadi-Wadi Jojoba at the heart of our clinically proven skincare range.
What does 'Wadi Wadi' mean?
Wadi-Wadi is the name of the unique strain of Jojoba that we grow on our farm here in Australia.
Jojoba originates in America and is grown in sandy desert areas. This original strain of Jojoba was trialled in Australia, but was unable to grow, so the CSIRO and the Dept of Agriculture developed the Wadi-Wadi strain to suit our country's climate and soil conditions.
It was given the Aboriginal name 'Wadi-Wadi' by the CSIRO and Dept of Agriculture. 'Wadi- Wadi' represents the female Jojoba plants that produce the beans, while the male Jojoba plants are named 'Dadi-Dadi'.
There are roughly 6 different strains of Jojoba grown in Australia, with Wadi Wadi considered the premium strain. Along with Wadi-Wadi, the other 5 strains were also given Aboriginal names.
Can I use Jojoba on both my face and body?
Yes! Both our Australian Jojoba and Certified Organic Jojoba can be used on both face and body.
Are your products non-comedogenic?
They sure are! Jojoba itself is considered to be non-comedogenic as it has a comedogenic rating of 2. Anything 2 and below is considered non-comedogenic which means the likelihood of it clogging pores is extremely low. With a 2, it can sometimes cause a purging of the skin which we do sometimes see with Jojoba.
Are your products pregnancy safe?
Yes, all our products are safe to use whilst pregnant and breastfeeding, however, we always recommend checking with your health care professional prior to use.
What does Jojoba smell like?
Whilst Jojoba is generally scentless, it is not uncommon for it to have a slightly ‘smoky’ smell. This is due to the cold-pressing process used to extract the liquid. It is also 100% natural, so the scent can vary between batches.
What is the shelf life of your products?
Jojoba’s shelf life is 24 months after opening or 3 years unopened. All other products are 1 year after opening or 3 years unopened.
If my skin is oily, should I really be using a facial oil?
Yes! Jojoba is a powerful natural ingredient that helps balance and regulate oil production. Jojoba is not an oil, but a liquid wax ester that is the closest botanical match to our skin’s own natural oil - therefore, it works with the skin to balance out the oil production.
Very often, oily skin is a result of dehydration, which is why the skin produces extra oil to compensate. Therefore, it is important to keep oily skin hydrated and balanced.
Why has my product changed colour?
As our products are natural, they are very sensitive to environmental factors such as light, heat etc so they can change colour due to these factors as well as age. It doesn’t mean it is rancid or off, it just means it is getting older and exposed to things that will change it.
My Jojoba has frozen, what do I do? Does this affect the product?
Jojoba has a freezing point of 7 degrees Celsius, which is why in some colder climates our pure Wadi-Wadi Jojoba will solidify. Don't stress! This does not affect your Jojoba at all. Once it thaws it will be exactly the same as it was before. It is an extremely stable liquid so this process does not impact the efficacy of your Wadi-Wadi Jojoba. The beauty of nature!
Application/Regime
Where in my regime do I use Jojoba?
We recommend applying our Jojoba or your chosen Jojoba-based facial oil after cleansing and toning but before any moisturiser. Products are generally applied lightest to heaviest. See below for recommended steps:
- Cleanse
- Tone
- Serum
- Jojoba or Facial Oil
- Eye Cream
- Moisturise
What to apply first, the Ultimate Serum or Ultimate Youth Potion?
Our Ultimate Serum is a water-based product that is applied first – this is then followed by the Ultimate Youth Potion as it is a heavier, oil-based product.
Can I use Jojoba and another facial oil at the same time?
No. We only recommend using one facial oil at a time. As all our facial oils contain Jojoba, it is not necessary to apply both. You can alternate between facial oils e.g. apply Jojoba in your morning regime and our Pigmentation Oil in your evening regime.
Do I still need a moisturiser if I am using an oil?
Yes! Different skincare products each serve a different purpose. Using a facial oil will help nourish the skin, while a moisturiser will lock in all the nutrients from facial oils and other products like toners and serums.
Does Jojoba need to be applied to damp skin?
All skincare is best absorbed on damp skin, however, it is perfectly fine to apply jojoba to cleansed, dry skin.
If I am doing a double cleanse, do I use the oil cleanser first?
Yes. If you are planning to double cleanse, we suggest using an oil-based cleanser first to remove makeup, like our Activating Cleansing Oil. Then, you can follow it up with a gel cleanser, like our Citrus Gel Cleanser to remove impurities.
How long to leave in between each product in my regime?
Most products can be left to sink in for about 30 seconds. For a facial oil, you may want to wait up to 60 seconds so it can properly absorb before you apply a moisturiser.
Probiotic Jojoba Milk
Which probiotic is in it?
The probiotic is Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate Filtrate, which is derived from bacteria that is used to inoculate milk to create yoghurt. It is non-dairy and non-animal derived. The ingredient itself is called ACB Yoghurt Dermal Respiratory factor PF.
What percentage of probiotic is in the milk?
We don’t reveal the percentages of ingredients in our products. Our products are formulated with ingredients that complement each other for maximum skin benefits. The individual ingredients within each formula are formulated at the recommended percentages for maximum results. The probiotic has been added in a percentage that gives the proven results.
Is it better to use Probiotic Jojoba Milk for rosacea rather than pure Jojoba due to the clinically proven results?
I would recommend using both the Probiotic Jojoba Milk and our Australian Jojoba together. They provide different benefits and together they would be a powerhouse for a skin condition such as rosacea.
Where in my regime do I use my new Probiotic Jojoba Milk?
Our Probiotic Jojoba Milk would be used in place of a serum, so we suggest using it after you cleanse and tone, and before applying a facial oil and moisturiser.
Sustainability/Environment
Is your packaging recyclable?
Yes, our packaging is made from 100% recyclable materials.
Do you test your products on animals?
No, we are proudly Cruelty-Free and Vegan Friendly. Additionally, all of the ingredients we use that are not grown on our Beresford Farm are ethically sourced.
Skin Concerns
What products would you recommend for my teenager who is experiencing breakouts?
It’s important to remember that breakouts are inevitable during the teen years, but their severity can be reduced if the skin is cared for properly. We suggest the daily use of a natural facial cleanser, like our Citrus Gel Cleanser, which unclogs pores and decongests the skin. After showering, applying our Australian Jojoba will help to nourish your teen’s skin while calming breakouts and controlling oil production.
What products would you recommend for soothing the symptoms of rosacea?
In terms of soothing the symptoms of rosacea, we suggest using our Australian Jojoba to calm the skin. Additionally, our Jojoba Probiotic Milk specifically works to alleviate redness, so used in conjunction with our Australian Jojoba would bring you best results.
Do you have a product that would help reduce my stretch marks?
Yes! Combining the wonderful properties of both jojoba and rosehip, our Jojoba & Rosehip Oil is great for reducing the appearance of stretchmarks and scars. Apply the oil to affected areas daily for best results.
What is the best product to use on my baby?
For babies, we suggest using our Organic Baby Oil which is enriched with essential oils for calming, otherwise our Australian Jojoba is also a great option for baby massage.
Do you have a product that will get rid of my blackheads?
If you deal with blackheads, we suggest you use a cleanser daily that will decongest the skin. Our Citrus Gel Cleanser is a gentle facial cleanser that controls excess oil and unclogs pores while helping to maintain your skin’s natural oils.
We also suggest using our Australian Jojoba on the skin as it helps to rebalance the skin’s oil production, reducing breakouts.
Other
Can I use Jojoba if I have a nut allergy?
Yes, you can. Jojoba is hypoallergenic, so it’s rare to have a reaction to it. Additionally, it is not a nut allergen.
Where can I find the expiry date on your products?
As we are EU certified (European Union), we follow their regulations. We use a PAO (Period After Opening) symbol on our products which identifies the useful lifetime of a cosmetic product after its package has been opened for the first time. It depicts an open cosmetics pot and is used together with a written number of months or years. For example, if there is a symbol of an open jar with the number 12 inside it. That 12 indicates that you need to use the product within 12 months of opening.
How have you proven 'clinically proven results' on some of your products?
Our products have been in vitro tested by a lab in New Zealand called Trinity Bioactives. They use real human skin cells and inject the cells with our products, then measure the increase in collagen and elastin in the skin cells. These results and claims have come from the lab where we had it all tested.
