What is the percentage of Vitamin C in the Vitamin C Glow Potion?
At The Jojoba Company, transparency is important to us. This is why we’ve decided to reveal the percentage of our Vitamin C Glow Potion and explain the reason why it's not currently advertised on our packaging.
We understand the desire to see a clear percentage on a Vitamin C product. After all, the higher the percentage, the better right? Not necessarily, and this is why it is important to understand the difference between THD Ascorbate and L-Ascorbic Acid.
What is the percentage of Vitamin C in the Vitamin C Glow Potion?
The percentage of THD Ascorbate (Vitamin C) in our Vitamin C Glow Potion is 8%.
But there's a reason why we didn't initially share this when we first launched the product and we believe it's important you understand why.
The type of Vitamin C we have used in the Vitamin C Glow Potion, THD ascorbate is an advanced form of vitamin C which works differently to other forms of vitamin C and penetrates deeper into the skin. It is also a more gentle kind. Compared to L-Ascorbic Acid, which can only penetrate the top layers of the skin and has been known to cause irritation to the skin especially at higher doses.
Our main concern is that we didn't want our customers to doubt the Vitamin C Glow Potion's effectiveness based on the percentage, as you can’t compare the two forms of Vitamin C based on a percentage.
When compared, THD Ascorbate has been proven to outperform L-Ascorbic Acid, so you can rest assured that the percentage we have used is perfect for the formula and for providing the scientifically proven results it boasts.
What is Vitamin C?
Vitamin C is a naturally occurring water-soluble (THD Ascorbate is an oil-soluble form) antioxidant that is required to maintain collagen production. As collagen is an essential protein and one of the major building blocks required for healthy youthful looking skin, vitamin C is vital in maintaining a radiant, glowing complexion.
What is the difference between THD Ascorbate and L-Ascorbic Acid?
L-Ascorbic Acid:
Pure vitamin C, also known as L-ascorbic acid, is a potent and refined version of vitamin C. The antioxidant benefits of L-ascorbic acid work to neutralize free radicals and reduce signs of skin damage.
For best results, when choosing skincare products with pure vitamin C, ensure they have been dermatologically formulated with low pH levels and at a concentration of between 10% to 20%. If not formulated correctly, pure vitamin C can become unstable and degrade within skin care products.
THD Ascorbate:
Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (THD) Ascorbate is an oil-soluble Vitamin C derivative known for penetrating deeper into the layers of the skin without causing irritation. Due to having a high absorption rate, you'll get the same amount of antioxidant protection, collagen boosting and brightening effects as L-ascorbic acid, but at a better absorption rate and with more stability than any other form of vitamin C.
Other Common Vitamin C FAQs

Vitamin C fights wrinkles by boosting collagen. It also shields skin from ageing free radicals and fades dark spots. This multi-tasking ingredient brightens and evens skin tone for a healthy, youthful glow.
Is Vitamin C good for wrinkles?
Vitamin C helps fight wrinkles in two ways: it boosts collagen, giving skin elasticity, and acts as an antioxidant to shield from damage that causes wrinkles. It won't erase them completely, but it can make them less noticeable.
What is the best type of Vitamin C for skin?
For sensitive skin, gentler derivatives of Vitamin C, like THD Ascorbate, are a good option.
How do I use Vitamin C Glow Potion?
Apply 1-2 pumps of Vitamin C Glow Potion to your hands and apply to your skin.
What time of day should I apply Vitamin C Glow Potion?
Though you can use it morning and night, for best results we suggest applying Vitamin C Glow Potion in your morning routine. The high antioxidant content will help to fight free radicals from UV rays and pollution in the air as you go about your day. Additionally, Vitamin C can't replace sunscreen, but it can boost its effectiveness.
Can Vitamin C irritate skin?
Yes, L-ascorbic acid can irritate skin, especially at high concentrations or in acidic formulas. Look for gentler forms, like products with THD Ascorbate or products with lower percentages if you have sensitive skin. Stop use if you experience redness, burning, or itching.
Does Vitamin C help with dark spots?
Yes, Vitamin C can lighten dark spots! It reduces melanin production, the pigment that causes them. It won't work overnight, but with consistent use, you can see a brighter, more even skin tone.
